Home Schooling

blogged by me domestic goddess On 1/29/2010 12:57:00 PM 6 lovely comments
Firstly, I started this post Friday, and it never got published and since this post I have been nurse to one hangover, and 2 poorly girls! So here goes Fridays post.

Today Lilly has been of school with a barking cough and snotty nose, bless her. Lilly has cheered up a bit so we decided to "play" schools.
This morning we had Science; we made a lava lamp. You have to make one of these, so easy and you will have everything in the cupboard that you need, well accept I didn't have any food colouring, which I cannot believe, but we will go get some and make another one this weekend.

Fill a bottle/plastic drinks bottle 2/3rd with water

Add a few drops of food colouring (if you have)

Fill up the bottle with vegetable oil

And add a teaspoon of salt and watch the magic ( or in our case miss the magic when trying to photograph!)

Photographing lava bubbles and adding salt is not easy, hence no effect, LOL

We had lunch and then this afternoon PE; this included Wii Sports and Wii Lets Dance, hehehe, hey its still physical!

This afternoons lesson includes some arts and crafts with moon sand!

Finally here is a preview of what's to come next week. With Valentines just around the corner, I am going to share some Valentine ideas, from a mini book, giftbags and baking!

Felt Rose Tutorial

blogged by me domestic goddess On 1/25/2010 04:36:00 PM 14 lovely comments
This weekend I had my crop, and instead of scrapping I went armed with piles of felt! Sue has made some gorgeous Hello Kitty pencil cases for her girls, and I started playing with flower making.
Today I am going to show you how to make the easiest, prettiest, most gorgeous felt roses! I have seen these in paper, but I just love them in felt.

Go grab felt, scissors, pins, glue and a pencil
Cut a 4" felt square. (try experimenting with different size of sqaure for a smaller or larger rose)

Now lightly pencil a spiral onto your felt

and cut out

The magic starts now... start rolling the felt spiral from the inside out

Once you have rolled all the felt up, glue the end or add a stitch

There you have it, the easiest and quickest felt rose. Just add a decorative pearl pin in the middle or a pearl stud. Try making these roses using paper and even fabric!

I have plans for my roses, which I will share with you on Friday; a little valentine project
Do share your roses with me, by posting a link in the comments.

Tomorrow I will share a couple of layouts from the weekend.

Today was crop day and I taught 2 classes. It was lovely to see all the ladies again, after our Christmas break, and we all had a laugh or three! I didn't do any scrapping, but I did make the most adorable felt flowers! Dawn if you are reading this, tomorrow the tutorial will be posted, LOL.

In preparation, you will need some felt, glue or needle and thread, scissors! and if you have any, some of those fancy pins with the decorative heads.

Hope you all had a lovely weekend

See you tomorrow for another flower tutorial. This week will be felt based tutorials.

As you know, i am a bit of a flower addict, whilst browsing the net, I came across some beautiful inspiration, these are some sites I am in love with at the moment. I can see some fabric flowers on the cards for next week!

Here you will find the most beautiful fabric flowers, want to give these a try.

Loving Elizabeth Kartchners blog and fabric flowers also

More fabric beauties here

We have had a lazy day at home, blissful. Lilly is full of cold and has been under the weather, although she has found some energy to continue knitting her scarf, bless her!

Do you have any sites to share with floral inspiration? If so post a link in the comments, I would love to see any recommendations you have

Flower Tutorial - Layering

blogged by me domestic goddess On 1/22/2010 01:20:00 PM 7 lovely comments
I thought it would be fun to have a look at our stash; of which we all have lots of!, and turn the scraps of paper, odd buttons and the mix of flowers sitting in a jar , and turn them into a new embellishment.

Go grab : Punches ie : circle, scallop small, paper scraps any weight, buttons and mulberry flowers in co-ordinating colours, twine, and if you have some bits of lightweight chipboard go get them too.

Lets punch a scallop and a circle in different pattern papers; I am using MME papers

Now rough up the edge of the circle with the edge of your scissor.

Scrunch the paper circle and scallop like we did in flower tutorial part 1

Grab a button and thread and tie the twine through the button.

Using glue dots, stick your button to the mulberry flower.

Pop the circle onto your scallop

Now using a glue dot or adhesive of your choice stick the 2 components together

Viola! How easy is that, and you have a new embellie to use on cards and scrapbook pages. I have added chipboard to the bottom layer for added dimension, and also just used a circle for a smaller embellishment.

Do share your creations, just post a comment below leaving a link.
Finally, here is a sneak peak of a layout I will be teaching at my crop this weekend. I am using Kaisercraft Christmas range.

Hope you are all having a great Friday

365 update

blogged by me domestic goddess On 1/21/2010 11:38:00 PM 3 lovely comments
The last few days 365 photos :)

Day 20 : Lilly writing songs!

Day 19 : Once again, I have taken up knitting, this time a neck cowl thingie!Peter laughs, as evertime I go through a "down" period I start knitting, and when I am better, I unpick it all, LOL, Oh well, it keeps me amused at the time!

Day 18 : Need to buy a new car, and whilst browsing on ebay, Peter checks this cute number out!

Day 17 : More lego fun!

Day 16 : Its been a weekend of lego fun here. We made the Simpson family from lego, how much fun was this!

Day 15 : Not in a good place at the moment, and wasnt sure I even should do a 365 SP for today. Whilst I have been signed off work, I have been doing alot of thinking. My Dr says I need to change my job, or at least find another position within the school, I on the other hand think he has it all wrong, I love my job and the children. Its a tough one. I am an emotional person with baggage, and these kids have too. I see myself in these kids..

Do check my sidebar as well where I have uploaded a slide show, which I will update weekly :)
Back tomorrow with another Paper Flower Tutorial!

You will need: paper scraps, buttons, small flower (like the prima milk bottle ones!), twine, small scalloped punch.
See you tomorrow, and thanks for stopping by

Creative Therapy

blogged by me domestic goddess On 1/20/2010 11:28:00 AM 7 lovely comments
I am not at work, due to some health problems, and feeling very glum, probably due to the gloomy January weather, so whilst curling up on the sofa under my rug, laptop at hand , watching America's Next Top Model is my first choice by far, instead I have been heading to my studio grabbing my scraps and making paper flowers (see my tutorials, rhs bar), and making cards.

I have blogged about my card making before. I am not a very good card making , and dream at making beautiful dreamy cards like Karola. Wow, every time I head over to her blog, I wish I could produce such master pieces, but I cant, so I keep things pretty simple, best way I have decided. But don't you think that's strange, considering I love to go shabby and pile on the embellies when it comes to scrapping! I just think its an odd one.

Supplies : Jenni Bowlin papers, journaling tag and chipboard, Papermani cardblank, ribbon

Anyways, i decided to share a couple of cards I made after doing the first 2 flower tutorials. I think I fell in love again with Jenni Bowlin as well! Creative Therapy is proving to be the best therapy for me at the moment...

Supplies : Jenni Bowlin papers, chipboard journaling tag, Papermania card blank, Kaisercraft pearl, American Crafts ribbon, stamp unknown?

Have a great hump day!
