Challenges and Charity

blogged by me domestic goddess On 2/28/2007 11:16:00 PM 6 lovely comments
Busy day today. I was back at the school teaching scrapbooking to Year 2 and again it was greatly received. i have now been asked to teach year 3, a result! Also a girl from Year 2 bought in her scrapbook to show me after being inspired by my class, awww it really did bring a lump to my throat. I received a lovely thank you card from Year 2 Squirrels class signed by all the children. This really will be treasured.

Then this afternoon was Izzy's parents evening, and we are very proud of our little girl who received a glowing report from her teacher Mrs Bliss, i so love that name, lol.

Check thsi photo out, this is my Lilly with her craft box, crafting away to her hearts content. She took herself to the dining room and this is what I fond. Absolutley priceless.

And then in the other corner, Izzy preparing "kits" for fridays scrapbook class with the Badgers, Izzy's class.
And now to a charity close to my heart, the MS Society. Today I have taken the plunge to run a 5K race in September for MS. Now for someone who is overweight and extremely unfit this is one serious challenge. But, I have a great motivator and instructor by the name of Annie Hafermann who has given me my first goal to aim for and some great tips. I will be starting my training Saturday morning. I also know that Cath is running in the Race for Life 5K in the summer so I will be supporting Cath in her bid to get fit.
Whilst I am on the matter of Charity I have a plea for all those with business or items they no longer need.
As some of you are aware my father passed away 1 week before my first retreat last year in September, and I held a charity raffle to raise money for the MS Society. Your generosity allowed me to raise £100 from sales of raffle tickets. This year I know we can do better and I will be holding a Charity Auction at this years retreat in April. I already have items from Ali Edwards, Elsie Flannigan, Hedi Swapp to name just a few of the wonderful celebs that are helping me out. So once again I am asking for the generosity of you to donate to this very worthwhile charity. You can see a link to my fundraising page on the side bar. This is the money I have so far raised from last years raffle, MS star appeal at Christmas and general fund raising. I will also be holding several events throughout the year to add this fund, and finally I will be running a 5K run in September for MS. So hopefully you can see that I as well as all the wonderful generosity of everyone, I too am "doing my bit" Please email me if you would like to send something. Please put in the subject line "charity auction"

Many thanks for getting this far, every little helps.
And finally its challenge night.

Lets go and have a rummage in you ribbon boxes and be creative with ribbon. this is a LO I did a while back using ribbons. Post a link to your creations by Monday no later and I will pick a name out and send a scrumptious bag of pretty ribbons!!!!
Have fun

Crop, Cupcakes and CJ's

blogged by me domestic goddess On 2/25/2007 11:23:00 PM 5 lovely comments
Last night I baked cupcakes. Delightful chocolate cupcakes with pretty pink sprinkles, and some fairy cupcakes with dolly mixtures. Us girls haven't met up and cropped in months, so i decided to go girly and pink and have a tea party. it was a fantastic day and we will be doing it all again same time, same place ,next month and for an hour longer, yippee!!!

Completed a CJ today for the Pad so i am now without CJ. We really need to get this poor CJ on the move again as its nearly a year since we started. I am desperate to get mine back, and yes I know i delayed getting mine out! At least the 2 I have finished now are on their way back to their owners.

Pencil Lines sketch 21 went live today, by Tammy Brownlee. Another great inspirational sketch for you to add your own creative flair too. Pop on over to the site and please email us your take on the sketches for this month and you could be in for a chance to win a years subscription to Scrapbook Inspirations and have your layout published. It really is a great RAK this month. Thank you Future.

And finally you have till tonight to post me you button challenge and i will be drawing a name tomorrow for a winner. Also I will be posting some news, kinda good but kinda sad and one that has been in the pipeline for some time now. Check back as you guys will benefit, financially!!

Hugs all, hope you had a wonderful weekend

Feel the Lurve

blogged by me domestic goddess On 2/24/2007 11:31:00 PM 3 lovely comments
Just been finishing my Pencil Lines sketch for tomorrow night and used some of this months Scrapping Angels kit, which I might add is nearly all sold out :), better go grab one quick.
Used this photo of the Roses that Peter bought and Lilly chose when I returned form LA. Meant so much more to me then any Valentine rose, (which I didn't get btw, lol)
I really adore this months kit, the Bo Bunny papers are gorgeous and there are scrummy embellies and pink smarties as a treat. What more could you ask for. Yep a PDF project file, I know, it is coming, promise.........

Friday I taught a year 1 class, scrapbooking. The children loved it, I was approached by other children who cannot wait to do my class, and the best thing of all was this one girl came up to me, who i had taught before half term , to tell me she had started her 1 st scrapbook and had bought it in for show and tell. I was so made up, this is what I was hoping, if only a glimmer of hope, would happen , and it did after my first class. i was a very happy me that day.

Tomorrow is crop day, I have spoilt the girls with cupcakes and nibbles all in the colour PINK. BUT my posh plain chocolate i used for the cupcake topping is so so bitter i cannot eat it, boohoo. They look pretty though if nothing else and i will be taking photos tomorrow. I cannot wait to see everyone it has been so long. I haven't cropped with these fab girls since October!!! As always we will have loads of fun, little scrapping will get done but lots of eating, giggles and gossip will be had.

Until tomorrow lovely peeps, have a great rest of your weekend.

Confessions and Layouts

blogged by me domestic goddess On 2/22/2007 10:38:00 PM 5 lovely comments
Confession time...... Those are NOT my buttons, they belong to Google Images. A terrible shame I know.

Been a busy girl today. The February Scrapping Angels kit is now available for you to purchase, along with add-ons (which are limited). The project gallery is up as well as the start of the kit gallery. I will have to try and photograph my LO again tomorrow, my scanner is dying and I am not happy with the results!! (no idea why my paper looks so crooked)

The class descriptions are coming in for the retreat and with classes like this you will not be disappointed

"Sensational Stitches", "Finishing Touches" and manufacturers like Cherry Artes, Delish, Hambly and Crate Papers you will not want to miss out on this scrapping weekend of bliss. WE still have a few places left and we also offer day places for a snip at £85 with 3 classes included !!

I received a box of projects from Creative Scrapbooking a while back and decided to open it today.

1. it was good to see the layouts

2. Boy has my creative style changed drastically.

This LO I did for the February/March Issue which never got published. Titled Emboss and Sparkle. I did 3 layouts and this one at the time was a favourite. Now I look at it and see all the elements floating on the page. I only did this 6 - 7 months ago and my scrapping style has changed so much. Do you look at layouts and thing "yikes"? I do this too often, layouts I loved at the time no longer please me. It is at times like this I realise how important journaling is, and fads and trends are maybe not so important. Although saying that I do like my layouts at present!. Full and inky. These 2 layouts I have posted have been made 6 months apart and neither display my current style.

I am going to work on updating this layout over the next couple of days and may even use my buttons ;)

too busy to blog

blogged by me domestic goddess On 2/21/2007 10:44:00 PM 12 lovely comments
crazy I know, and with so much to show and tell.
In the meantime as promised, this weeks scrap challenge.

Buttons, buttons, buttons. I have hoards of buttons in every colour imaginable, every shape known to man, from plain Bazzill buttons to some odd character ones. Buttons from my favourites outfits of the girls to haberdashery leftovers.

I am sure you too have more buttons then you use on any 1 layout. And may even have stopped using them for some other new product.

So my challenge to you all this week, is to

"go and use your buttons in a creative way"

Leave me a comment with a link to your creation by Sunday night and i will draw a name and post a bag of goodies to the lucky winner.

Have fun

mmmm lets see...........

blogged by me domestic goddess On 2/19/2007 11:24:00 PM 5 lovely comments
1st day back to school, so that's a proper mornings work for me. Well in my case lots of phone calls washed down with my black coffee, whilst picking up emails.
Packed the 1st batch of kits for posting, just waiting for the 2 nd delivery of papers to arrive and then i can send out the balance. I will have any extra kits up for sale tomorrow, its just been to hectic to sort out this evening.
I have not created today, boohoo so have pulled out an old favourite from the archives (at least a 1 year old!) which funnily enough works with this weeks pencil line sketch!!. Have I mentioned how much I love this weeks sketch. Looks so simple , and is, but can be jazzed up so much for a completely different look, i love it!!

More great news for the Scrapping Angel delegates, we will have a Fancy Pants class to add to the ever growing list of fantastic manufacturers.

The Charity Auction is looking celebed up as well, with such great names as Ali Edwards, and Elsie Flannigan to name a couple who are donating to this very important charity The MS Society. And please if you are not coming to the retreat (WHY NOT!!!??) you can still reserve direct to my fundraising page. (see bottom of page).
Hope you had a more creative day than me. Tomorrow I will create for;
1. Scrapping Angels fabby Feb kit!
2. Catch up on my Emily 52 week challenge (i told you i would never make it past week3!)
3. DT assignments
4. Magazine projects
5 Pencil Lines sketch
6. scrap challenge 2
to name a few of my "must do" creative list!!!

Tomorrow check back for my 2nd scrap challenge, this will be something to do with embellishments!

Yikes, its been a few days since I updated, and it seems a few of you have noticed. i am sorry and I am fine and well, thank you all. Just needed some time out and to try and catch up on so many things. Glad to say I am feel slightly refreshed and will be off to the comfort of my bed and Nytol very shortly, but not before showing you my Pencil Line layout and reminding you all the sketch is live! This weeks GDT is the one and only Kate Hadfield, so glad and happy that Kate came to play with us.
My sketch is titled "Splash Dance". I used Worldwin card stock and Crate Papers "Avenue". Angel Kiss blooms and flowers, brads, stamps and buttons, oh and a dash of faux stitching, boy do I love that stuff!!!!

And tomorrow is posting day for the February Kit and I will be adding any left over kits to the site tomorrow night along with the gallery and projects page in the next couple of days. All very exciting.

I have a meeting with Wyboston Lakes for the retreat (go book your place), I am helping out at Rainbows this week and teaching at Izzy's school to year 1 and 2's the delights of scrapbooking. I also have a few projects to complete for publication and some DT work to do.

Nearly completed the stock taking and my office may resemble a scrap room for scrapping by the end of the week!!!!

Thank you all that took up my challenge, the name has been drawn from a tin bucket (lol) and is

CARO

Well done Cara, please email me your address so I can post your box of scraps to you this week

Insomnia or jetlag?

blogged by me domestic goddess On 2/11/2007 01:47:00 AM 3 lovely comments
I cannot believe this, its nearly 2am and i am still wide awake! I have been so tired through the day these last couple, and have slept for England, last night i was wide awake until 5.30am and then have slept most of the afternoon and snoozed most of the evening and am now wired!. But no energy to do a thing, all this quiet time and i don't feel like scrapping. Gggrrr.

Oh well, guess I shall does plod on and try and jump start my system again.
Received my contributors copy of Scrapbook Inspirations in the post yesterday. i was looking forward to seeing this as I had been asked to take part in the £5 challenge along with Sally and Kirsty. My layout was very special as it was in memory of my Dad. He would have been so chuffed that he was in print, lol.
I used Cherry Artes Seasonal collection, Bazzill card stock and I bought some individual buttons from a market stall. My journalling was the poem I read at dads funeral.

I also had a small piece on the back page about the Reading Photography course I want on with Mel at ATDML and Annie. So Izzy is adorning the pages of scrapbook magazines again. Its so funny, I always get excited to see my work and pictures of the girls in print, and i show my enthusiasm to the girls, where as Izzy just acts too darn cool, "yeah I know" is the usual answer I get when i show her the article or picture!!

The snow has all gone and we are left with heavy down pours of rain. Lilly and I have been under the weather on the sofa most of the afternoon unable to face food or anything, whilst Izzy and Peter have been gaming and prepared themselves steak and chips for dinner. No kidding, seriously!!!

And just quickly, Izzy had swimming today and it was laps, and she swam a few yards without and buoyancy aid!!! We are so proud of her

Have a great weekend. Don't forget to check out Pencil Lines tomorrow night GMT

Hey we had snow!

blogged by me domestic goddess On 2/08/2007 11:10:00 PM 7 lovely comments
and lots of it, in fact around 4 inches which is alot for us southerners and the most i recall seeing in about 6 years. No school for the girls, work from home for daddy and a morning spent making a snowman. Although I cannot believe how many disagreements could be had between father and daughter over building a snowman! It's like, how many snowmen have we built in our lifetime, and does it really matter? But in the end this monster of snowman was finished and became the 1st Bowkis snowman in Southoe, and we love her. Did try and embellish her with 4" angel kiss blooms but they wouldn't stay on, lol, and can you actually believe i didn't have a carrot in the house so she has a lump of wood for a nose!

And that was about it really. The afternoon was spent lazing about on the sofa in front of the wood burner, having lunch and watching The Kid by Charlie Chaplin. I am still sitting in a bombsite of an office, have paperwork to complete, emails to send, orders to pack, orders to chase and so on, you get the picture.
My poor Lilly has come down poorly again and is sporting another high temperature and barking cough, and is extremely clinging towards me. I reckon she is making sure i do not desert her again, bless her.

I leave you with no LA pics today but of the fun in the snow and our 1st snowman of 2007 (and very likely our last)
Hope you all had a great day.

my hardest teaching job to date?

blogged by me domestic goddess On 2/07/2007 09:25:00 PM 9 lovely comments
or was it???? Lets just say the prospect of teaching 25, year 2 primary school students suddenly left me with butterflies in my stomach with only 10 minutes to pull myself together.......... but I did, and I am doing it all over again 3 more times!!

I am teaching year 1 and 2 students the importance of preserving their memories through the art of Scrapbooking. This follows on from a day workshop the children have done about their ancestors life's as children. I presented a class plan to the Head of year 1 and 2, pointing out how children can look at what is important to them as children today and what fun it will be to see how life changes in 10 - 20 years time. Mrs Bliss jumped at the chance and today was my first class. 25 eager children listening and enjoying seeing my scrapbooks, is a complete thrill. Although many were shocked that i never had a PlayStation as a child, and did i even have toys!! LOL. Unfortunately due to privacy laws and such, I was unable to take my camera to record this event, ironic I know, maybe i can arrange this by my last lesson in February.
Its cold outside, very cold and we are waiting for the white stuff and waking up tomorrow morning with 5 inches of snow!!! which will likely mean no school for the girls though. Its Izzy's valentine disco tomorrow as well. She has chosen her outfit and will be going over to a friends after school before the disco and then off out for a MacDonald's for teas afters, yes she is only 6, what a social life kids have to day.
More piccies from LA, street signs and such, all waiting to be turned into this weeks pencil lines sketch. OK so i missed the Sunday deadline, but I still love the sketch and has actually been a favourite Cathy Z layout for a while, and it will work perfectly with all my US snapshots! Also some piccies of me and our US celebs. This one above is the wonderful Dina and Janene, the brains behind Zsiage. I dont think the other 2 need introducing ;)

Hope you had a good day. Don't forget to check out the sneak peak of this months kit over at Scrapping Angels, it is selling out fast

Honey I'm Home!!!

blogged by me domestic goddess On 2/06/2007 02:39:00 PM 8 lovely comments

Boy am I glad to be back, although still jet lagged, what a wimp I am. I had a wonderful time meeting wonderful people, thanks to all the Zsiagettes for looking after me so wel, thank you to the MC girls for having me and to Suzi for spoiling me at Sweetpeas. I have met so many people, walked many miles, know the big blue bus timetable inside out and need to learn how to order low fat food in the states!
I still havnt downloaded all my pictures from my trip so i will add them over this weeks posts for you all. I will start with my welcome home banner made by my gorgeous girls, who i missed so terribly. i was crying before i had even got through the green channel at heathrow!
Arn't these the most beautiful flowers ever as well? Chosen by Lilly and a little pipe cleaner flower made by Lilly with some help by mummy;).
So many gorgeous things at CHA, although I wouldn't say any ground breaking stuff, well at least i didn't See any. Mel from ATDML has some great pictures on her blog if you havnt seen already. I loved this dress made out of paper. This btw seems to be the hip way top display papers and embellies. Lots of dressed mannequins were seen, even 1 company was doing a make and take on them!
Bumped into Emily and bump! She is looking so well and was off to Paris that week so we didn't manage to spend much time together. Heidi Swapp is having another baby, how does she do it?! OK not the having the baby bit, but the... oh you get the drift.

Thursday and Friday was "me" time and I headed down to Santa Monica Plaza and shopping area. had a yummy sushi lunch and strolled down to Venice Beach, mmm what can I say, very little actually, this photo says it all really!
Friday did the LA/Hollywood star tour. Saw Manns Chinese Theatre, Beverley Hills and Rodeo Drive. And yes I did go shopping at Tiffany's, the $ is too strong not too, lol.
Forgot to say on Saturday night I headed to Disney Land with Marie from Zsiage, loved it, and Sunday was the Zsiage dinner at Downtown Disney, where we bumped into Tim!!! who just happens to be good friends with Dina and Jeanene.

Today has been back to the grind stone. I have gone through emails and will start packing orders tomorrow. Check out Scrapping Angels tonight for details on the February Kit as well, very cute. EBay is causing me headaches as its seems no one has bothered to read that i am away which has left me with many angry emails and negative feedback :(, not a happy bunny.

Did you see Pencil Lines while I was away? We had the ever talented Elsie Flannigan and this weeks is Cathy Zielske!!! How lucky are we to have such talented designers on board. And it was great to met so many people in the US who knew of Pencil Lines as well, picked up some great sponsorship whilst i was away so many great goodies in store for the DT and Readers Gallery, I really cannot wait.

OK I am away for a week and I have come back to "Blog Pimping" PMSL, how unbelievable is this. I have been known to pimp my own blog to see if it really effected figures, and it did, so is this really why bloggers pimp, to increase viewing figures? I really cannot see the point, but it seems there are blogging wars going on all over the UK at the moment, but hands up I do pimp Pencil Lines, because its the BEST!!!

More LA shannanigans tomorrow

I am being press ganged to write this post, it wont contain any of my natural flair or human, i feel like Nelson Mandela writing in his prison cell, only i have a secretary to write it for me, (LOL), it is with a heavy heart, that i say farewell. IT has been an amazing journey, the good times (Lilly Charlie Chaplin), the bad times (Clutter Nutters), but have i learned something from this amazing experience? I believe I have.

It has proved, just how great I am, even though my wife don't appreciate it, you should see the smirk on her face as she types this!!
NEWS

Anna returned safely and has promptly slept all day, it is late evening and Anna has finally decided to wake up. She has been working on my laptop, replying to posts on her eBay, moaning constantly, yes i think the jet lagged is finally wearing off.

Well thats about it for now, the Superbowl is about to start, and i will be cheering on my Bears ,
Many thanks to you all for viewing and posting comments, see you all later

La La Land

blogged by me domestic goddess On 2/01/2007 01:39:00 AM 4 lovely comments
I am here, tired, exhausted and pretty sick, boohoo, no surprise really as i am teaching! Spent yesterday in bed with a ranging temperature, got up for my class but Stayce and Nicole (from MC) both agreed i could not teach.
Wow, wow and double wow. CHA is big, really big. I have worked my butt of, met so many people and Dina and Janene are full of life and know everyone one!
My Zsiage team mates are such a great bunch of ladies and have looked after me well. I have done Disney Land, hob nobbed with Tim in Downtown Disney (are you girls jealous or what!) met up with Emily and Tara amongst so many others. Even bumped in to Emily at LAX today while i was catching a shuttle to Santa Monica and she was off to Paris.
So whats new you asked, and I would say not much tbh, there was a lot of black and white about, overlays, bling and everyone has bought out their own range of chipboard and flowers!
I have spent loads of money on the next 4 kits for Scrapping Angels, wait till i get back for sneak peaks, you are gonna love what i have in store for you all.
So i am 10 stone heavier due to the enormous portions offered everywhere and the sickly sweet but yummy maple syrup waffles i am greeted with each morning.
I am now in Santa Monica off to Hollywood tomorrow and having dinner with Suzi Finer form Sweet peas and snapshots!.
I see Peter has been doing a great job while i have been away and has hijacked my blog in style bless him.
So i will leave you now as my weary feet are off to my hotel, nachos in a tin, HBO and bed!
Oh and btw i am "so cute" now no one has called me that before, so i am loving these US gals, mwah
hugs all and a specila hug and kisses to my girls and Peter, love you all so very much and missing you all terribly
