Front Cover!!!

blogged by me domestic goddess On 3/31/2007 10:06:00 AM 7 lovely comments
I get so excited when I see my work published, and this month my project for Scrapbook Inspirations made the front cover *GRIN* as well as a 3 page feature in the magazine. And then to top it all off Scrapping Angels Kits sponsored the "ready steady scrap" challenge and the kit got great reviews and awesome layouts were produced by the lucky readers who took the challenge.
Been busy these last few days creating, and this is a project I did for the Zsiage DT and for this months kit. I adore these Zsiage papers designed by Jenn Starr. Really funky and best of all, work with my Ranger inks. Whilst I was creating Izzy scrap lifted a layout of mine and this is her layout which I love, all chosen by her and yes she even used my corner punch, isn't she a clever bunny.
I will get this months kit uploaded to the site this weekend, for those waiting anxiously to see a preview. Well worth waiting for.
Easter holidays have began and I have 2 weeks with my girls, not sure if this is a good thing right now as they are both suffering form post party blues. last night we went to relatives Golden wedding anniversary. Lilly danced all night on the stage and is now suffering with stomach ache and Izzy is love sick over this 16 year old who is the son of Peters cousin. She has had a crush on him for 2 years, bless her and he had a dance with Izzy last night which made her night complete.
Gorgeous weather here, hope to get lots of fresh air, go for run this weekend and do my Pencil Lines sketch which I so love. I picked this weeks sketch from Becky Flecks large collection of fabulous sketches. This weeks sketch will really stretch your imagination! Also do not forget to upload your layouts to us by tomorrow night for a chance to win a RAK of Hambly goodies.

Final piece of creativity from me is this layout for the Zsiage DT.Used a transpancy overlayed on my LO and painted ontop, then added white journalling pen doodles. A bit of a photo overload I know, tomorrow will be no better as I ahve lots of photos to share from last night.
Hope you all have a glorious weekend

photos to share

blogged by me domestic goddess On 3/28/2007 03:07:00 PM 14 lovely comments
I have been a lucky lady and had the most adorable children around lately, and yes that includes visiting Miss Addy. Armed with my camera and playing with editing, which i can tell really is not my strong point, much to learn and so little time and patience. I thought I would share these few as a taster to start with.

I have also been scrapping abit today. I have a few DT assignments to do and one is for Zsiage. I am hooked on transparencies at the moment. I have sewn a blank transparencie over my LO and then stamped ontop using those really cool and very cheap stamps from Papermania, thanks to Caz for the RAK.

Inspired by Hebe and Ali Edwards, I love the idea of covering a page completely with a photo. I am going to do a book focusing on Lilly and her first "friend" at playschool. Their friendship is so special and sweet, one is never seen without the other close by and Chloe came to our house for the afternoon yesterday when we had a little photo shoot out in the glorious sunshine.

I am sitting writing this post on peters Laptop, while being serenaded by Lilly singing some song about washing hands! She is playing teachers, and re enacting today's events at school, how cute!
We forget how precious these everyday moments are sometimes. Ali Edwards blogged and recorded with photos their bedtime routine. Great idea and one i hope to do this week, simple pleasure like these must be remembered

Summer Time

blogged by me domestic goddess On 3/26/2007 09:07:00 AM 4 lovely comments
and the living is easy.......which it kinda has been this week. Yesterday was crop day with 7 ladies who i can call friends. We have been cropping over a year now together, we shed tears, laughed, laughed and laughed some more. Kerry took to the baking this week with a scrumptious chocolate and cream cake dotted with small crispy shelled chocolate eggs, mmmmmm. Ali was in demo mode and taught us all how to emboss, double emboss and triple emboss. We stamped with bleach!! and sniffed stazon. What a great way to end the day......... or was it. Poor Ali after waiting 20 minutes for Paul to collect her was still at home with the clocks at post summer time!

With Ali, Sue and stock bundled in the car, sue was returned to the train station and Ali came over to mine, with the arrival shortly after of Paul and Levi, much to the girls delight!

And with all the excitement of the day over, Pencil Lines sketch went up last night. Sponsored by wonderful Allison who owns Hambly Studio Prints, and sketch designed by Lu Braxton who is on their DT. WE all had a bunch of Hambly to play with, no pack was the same so a challenge to start with. And to top it all of we have a RAK to give away of Hambly products to one luck scrapper this week. Sorry I keep forgetting to post the recipes to both the chocolate cake and lemon meringue splendor!!
As the recipes are sooooo long, especially Choccy Cake, i will write them up as a PDF file and post tomorrow.

Just finished my Pencil Lines sketch. This week we have been sponsored by one of my favourite companies. I was very lucky to get to meet up with the owner and designer and we got on so well and with talk of Lu Braxton and Pencil Lines, sponsorship was next. I am so grateful to this wonderful company for giving the Dt a chance to play with such an awesome product.

This is a sneak peek of my layout. Crap scan but it is gone midnight here in the UK!!

No its gone 1am, just remembered the clocks go forward, yikes... bedtime for me

OOPs...............

Crumbs, how times flies when you are having fun, or in my case busy busy busy. I hadn't even realised it had been a few days since I last updated. Well I had another play with digi, still not for me but I wanted a new banner, so I think this may be as far as my digi talent lets me, unless Rhona wants to give me a one on one lesson ;)

Downloaded a few more freebies, this time from 2peas and Dawn Inskip, and decided to try designing my own blog banner. Not my colours at all, but its different and I think I like it as a change.

This layout I did with March's kit from Scrapping Angels. Love the bling bazzill and papers so much. I seem to have got stuck on doing baby photos of Lilly though!
The retreat is nearly full, infact I think there are only 1 or 2 places left, out of the 8 classes 2 are fully booked already. I am so looking forward to this years fun and frolics. Fantastic teachers, great delegates and lots of fun guaranteed :)

On Thursday was the schools Victorian day. All the children made such an effort as and the teachers looked out of this world! I tried to capture a few photos before Izzy went to school dressed as a scullery maid. I really love this photo. I used my Itty Bitty Actions "Old School" and then played a bit with the contrast. Doesn't she look so serene and beautiful?

I am off for a run now , and its the weekend. American Idol for me tonight

Happy Birthday Baby

Its Peters birthday today, and although he should have been at work, it was for 1 hour while he drove up the A1 and turned back for home when a meeting was cancelled. Lucky boy has had me for company in the morning and his Xbox for the rest of the day, finished of with the girls laying the dinner table for a banquet of fish and chips from the "Codfather", wine and a lemon cheesecake from M&S, the boy did good. And I my friend's, downloaded a freebie digi kit from Creating Keepsakes and the rik rak flower is a freebie from Shabby Princess, and threw my first digi LO together, and i don't think i am converted. I guess it like doing your first "real" LO, i had limited supplies and knowledge, but there you have it, 30 minutes later and a LO for my hubby

So much to share!!

blogged by me domestic goddess On 3/19/2007 11:16:00 PM 7 lovely comments
So lets start with delicious chocolate cake. I just cant stop baking. This little masterpiece was for Mothering Sunday and an early birthday cake for Peter, who turns 38 tomorrow!!!!. My first proper chocolate cake I have ever baked, and i think it looks rather good, if i am allowed to say so, and it tasted bloody marvelous!

Had a wonderful day yesterday, spoilt rotten by the girls and Peters mum, yes I had the most gorgeous posy of Spring flowers bought for me. The girlsbought me a Momiji doll each, lots of handmade cards, a box of love from Lilly and lots of goodies form Izzy , along with a homemade cake, am I just lucky or what, and to top it all of Peter greeted me with my own lil coffee plunger thing and a box of thornton chocolates.

It was also Pencil Lines sketch night, by the very talented Paula Sealey. I love my layout, which really does look so much nicer IRL. I used this months Scrapping Angels kit and actually scrapped some old photos. This is me and Lilly , yep look at that wrinkle free face and those young hands........

I also made this chipboard book for peters mum from the kit which is filled with photos of her 4 children as babies. I love this idea which i saw on another website, Journal me This, and think it can easily be adapted with "Nan", "Dad" etc etc, you don't have to use such large letters which will allow for a longer word. Kit subscribers will get step by step instructions in their PDF.

Mmmm so what else have I been up to. Well i packed and posted the monthly kits, had lunch with my dearly beloved at The George Hotel in Buckden, went to see the Doc for a routine check up, did my run in hail and snow, I sure do pick my running days..... and ended the day with a homemade lasagna cooked by Peter, so a good day I should say....

Hope all you UK mums had a great day yesterday and were as spoilt with love and hugs as I was
Much Love

Baking.......

blogged by me domestic goddess On 3/17/2007 04:32:00 PM 4 lovely comments
MMMM the saga of my hand and now right arm has left me unable to do much or even feel motivated. BUT my goal to fitness has left me with the urge to bake tantalising cakes and cookies full of not so healthy scrumminess!!
Thursday night started with my infamous cheese on toast;

white bread
cheese
egg white
mustard
lea perrins

mix well, you want a dry consistency not a wet one. Lightly toast some white bread. Spread evenly your cheese mixture onto the lightly buttered toast. Under a medium grill for 5 - 7 minutes. I add more lea perrins for me and sometimes the girls have some ketchup. Perfect supper time treat, or for us our regular Thursday tea time treat after swimming!

Friday was cookie day and Lilly and I made the most scrumptious chocolate and oat cookies using butterscotch chunks from Annie. Today I have just finished making a Lemon Meringue Cake for mothers day lunch . This was such a success last year at Easter , I thought I would make it for Sunday lunch. And finally I am waiting for Peters birthday cake to come out of the oven, a traditional chocolate cake!!!
(if anyone wants the recipe for this lemon cake let me know aand i will email it across)

The girls are off to Nana's, peter and I are out for a cosy pub dinner and tomorrow is Pencil Lines new sketch
I do have a few March kits left at Scrapping Angels, perfect for those Mother Day layouts.

To all you Mum's out there, have a great day tomorrow

The exercise ball....... Yes, this complete with skipping rope is the continuing effort towards my fitness goal. Now I rather like the way this model is using her fitness ball and can see a growing trend, especially for those that do digital scrapbooking!!!!
Short and sweet again tonight as my right hand is like a balloon!!

By the way I am confirmed as teaching at the Imagine Show at Alexander Palace in April. Really excited to have been asked to teach the Making Memory classes, check the website for details .

Scrapping Angels website and blog will be updated tomorrow morning when i can type better and Annie and I ave decided to keep the new "Beyond the Page " kit for another month so that we can release a few more March kits due to the massive response we have had. So if you are on my reserve list you are in luck!!

Catch you all tomorrow

A day to reflect

blogged by me domestic goddess On 3/14/2007 06:37:00 PM 2 lovely comments
Today is 2 years since Peter's father passed away, so today work tput to one side and we spent the afternoon at his mum's and a bit of retail therapy in the form of running shoes and running gear for me, lol.

Peter had a few minutes to himself at the tree planted in his dads memory in mums garden. It has been such a glorious spring day here. Made the pain of today just a bit easier for all.

I went for a "run" this afternoon and have done my best day so far!

2 min walk, 12 min run x 2 = 1.8 miles!!!, not bad for my 2nd week :)

Lilly picked a winner yesterday from one of my scrummy "to be" decorated tin buckets.

Rachel please email me at albowkis@hotmail.com so i can send a box of goodies your way.
OK the hand saga!! Some of you may remember about 6 months ago i suffered with awful pains in my hand joints that left me crippled and in a lot of pain by the evening, well it has come back again. Viral arthritis is not nice and leaves me unable to do much by early evening. I am writing my blog today before it gets too bad.

I have stocked up on magazines as well for those non scrapping, no surfing nights ahead of me

fifi's world (for Lilly, honest)
digital camera
scrapbook inspirations ( and scrapping angels get a mention)
Good Food
This should be enough material to keep my within my "domestic goddess" title for the time being! Only magazine missing was a good health really.......

That's all folks, I am off to bath my girls, hug my hubby (yes it has been known!) and go pop my feet up with a magazine

hugs

Dragon Fruit it is!

blogged by me domestic goddess On 3/11/2007 10:26:00 PM 5 lovely comments
All correct answers. I have never seen one and was so intrigued had to bring one home and take a photo!. And yes it tastes pretty naff, nothing at all. A bit like a Kiwi without the taste!

Will pick a name tomorrow and a pizza box full of goodies will be winging its way to someone, after i finish the last batch of closing down orders.

Its been the usual busy weekend in the Bowkis household, so never really much to talk about. Izzy had swimming yesterday, I did my run. Today is rest day, and party for Izzy and Lilly this afternoon at a dry slope. And they loved it. Peter and I even had a go, but alas no photos to prove that one ;)
Have been trying to get to grips again with my camera, have a feeling i have changed a setting and everything seems to be blurred when i upload, ggrrr. I am so impatient. After finishing the photography course last October, i was eager to purchase my DSLR, and come of auto, which I have. There is still so much to learn and I wish i had a few more daylight hours in a day to play. This is one shot i do love of Izzy from Friday, used my newly purchased itty bitty actions as well, and I love them. So easy to use and so much potential to mix and match, just need that dreaded thing called "time" on my side again.

Completed my Pencil Line sketch by Leah Fung today. How lucky are we, we really do have the best scrapping talent on board with us, from all over the world. Do go check this weeks sketch, its a challenging one, and the DT have as always done such inspiring work.
Supplies:
World Win cardstock
Daisy D paper
Karen Foster paper/sticker
Heidi Swapp acylic stars
Lil Davis chipboard
Zig Zag stamp
Back tomorrow with more photos and the winner of my little "who am I" challenge
Hope you all had a great weekend

Spring has Sprung

blogged by me domestic goddess On 3/10/2007 12:29:00 AM 21 lovely comments
What a gorgeous day it has been. The skies have been blue and the sun has shone on us all day. After a busy morning, back and forth up the A1, this was due to Lilly having her first birthday party invite. This little girl was bursting with excitement, bless her. When I returned home I decided to pop outside with my camera and snap away. Lilly was a willing model some of the time, of which I will share with you over the weekend, as these are going to have to be scrapped.

Izzy had a school disco to attend, and my LA diva complete with bling hit the tarmac of Southoe for a photo shoot, and this is one of my favs.

Short post today, but can you tell me what this is? (no not the daf!) One lucky poster who gets the right answer will receive a pizza box of goodies. Now the shop has closed there are a few goodies looking for a new home!

And lastly but no means least, Scrapping Angels opens its redecorated doors tomorrow. Its taken a good year but finally we have made it, and Angel Kisses the brand, get a logo. Check back tomorrow to hear more.....

Training Day 5

blogged by me domestic goddess On 3/07/2007 11:20:00 PM 9 lovely comments
this doesn't get easier, and not when you decide to take the scenic route up hill with the wind against you!!!! and a flat battery in your MP3 player.
So today's efforts seem meager compared to day 3's

Training Day 5

walk 3min - run 2 min
walk 2 min - run 8 min
walk 2 min - run 3 min
walk 3 min - achieved
(photo slightly out of focus so used a blur effect and turned B/W)

Got nothing creative done today, need to get the balance of my orders packed and tidy this "S"crap room before i can even expect my Mojo to flow.

Although I have to get creative soon making a Victorian outfit for Izzy. Its Victorian Day on March 22nd!!

Can someone just enlighten me where some people get the time to be so creative all day?? I run a business, run a home, look after and entertain a husband and 2 children, play parent helper at school and nursery on occasions and cook a proper meal every night for my family, oh and take the girls to their various after school activities they do. Where in the day is their time to scrap??? I envy those that find it............

Tomorrow is another day and maybe tomorrow will be that day I find the time to scrap, yay.

no idea what is with my title post, but i cannot think of anything, lol. Had a great day with Annie, Addie and Dean yesterday. We sorted lots of kit and retreat bits out, visited a new scrapbook shop in Bury where I purchased the most fantastic 12"X12" frames, and i have 1 up for grabs at the retreat auction .Took lots of photos of Addie, she is such a doll, just like her mommy ;)

Today has been mega busy, packing ebay orders, printing off the last of the shop orders and chasing CHA orders that have not materialized, ggrrr. Lilly and I had a scrummy lunch at a new bistro i found just down the road in the next village, we have now done a road test and we reckon we can start taking friends and family. After a mega tantrum in town, that's Lilly not me btw!!!! we came home and planted up tomatoes, runner beans and some garden herbs, mmm our own little window sill allotment. I am turning into a right Felicity Kendall.

Training is going well. I went out lats night at 6.16pm, in gale force wind and rain, wrapped up complete with Peters beanie hat and waterproofs, now that would have made a great photo. Put my MP3 on and off i ran

Training Day 3

Run 2 min Walk 1 min
Run 5 min Walk 1 min
Run 12 min ( did a Forrest Gump, hehehe) - achieved

Training Day 4

Rest Day - another superb effort from me

Hoping to get some creating done tomorrow, i am always so busy with DT, mag work and such that I very rarely create for me these days, and I am desperate to get my teeth into some projects. And one of those projects is an after school craft club that I have been asked to organise. I am so chuffed to be asked, and to see the classes I have taught were so inspiring, I am just waiting to get my timetable for the rest of the school now.
As 1 business closes another starts again, lol. This will be part of the Scrapping Angels group and will be my Scrapping Lil Angels. I have been so shocked at the lack of funds for the art department at Izzy's school that materials are non existent. If anyone knows how to go about raising materials for schools please drop me a line. Once my shop orders are packed I will be taking in some boxes of paper and embellies for the school but I will need to get hold of cardstock and basics for teh after school club.

Thats all folks, off to watch some new series "Smith" on ITV4 and then bed

Sunday smutterings...

Good day today as I popped down to Stevenage for the stamp fair. Did not buy 1 single stamp but lots of scrummy paper and embellies, so I am happy. Popped by to see how Paul was doing, he was doing well, empty prongs were a sure sign of that!!
Arrived home mid afternoon and baked a tray of flapjacks and then prepared a gorgeous dinner of Salmon with Pecan crust, as per recipe from Annie and its was gorgeous. I had a lovely salad with mine while Peter had roasties and green beans and the girls enjoyed posh fish cakes. Scrummy scrummy is all I can say, not a morsel was left on our plates.

Lastly it is sketch day and sketch 21 is live. I used my new stash i had just bought as well. A very simple affair for me but I love it, the photo says a thousands words to me.

Supplies :

We R Memory Keepers patterned paper
World Win cardstock
Fontwerks date stamp
Cream twill hand stamped

Spring has arrived in our house and it is adorned with tulips and daffodils. I will post some photos tomorrow. Off to see Annie and get some serious retreat stuff done and the scrapbook shop, wohoo!!!

There are still a few places left on the retreat, check out classes and details here, this is one event you do not want to miss this year.

Finally its is farewell to Bumble Bee Crafts and The Lounge forum as our doors are now closed.
I am not sad as this is now the start of Scrapping Angels and we will have a new fab site for you all to see next weekend.

Hope you all had a great weekend
Training Day 2
rest day - achieved with flying colours

Training Day One

blogged by me domestic goddess On 3/03/2007 10:42:00 PM 10 lovely comments
Yes today was the day that I took to the tarmac of Southoe, with trainers and scraped back hair and tracky bottoms to begin the first day of my next 7 months, training for the 5K all women's race for MS.

OMG was it hard or what. The running and walking bit was OK but Jesus i was so out of breath, my breathing was terrible and my chest felt so tight. I thought this was supposed to be good for me!!

Not just that but £200 later a healthy food bill from Tescos was paid, mmm this healthy lifestyle is not good for my bank balance nor my heart!

(out of focus photos courtesy of Mr P Bowkis)

Today's stats are as follows (training program by Race for Life):

1 minute run, 1 minute walk x 10 - achieved

My legs are like jelly now, but I feel good for even starting, so to celebrate I am of to the Stevenage Stamp show tomorrow to spend some cash on stash, hehehe.

Pencil Lines new sketch goes up tomorrow and today is the last day to send in you February LOs for the readers gallery and to be in for a chance to win a 12month subscription to Scrapbook Inspirations and a chance to be published.

Tomorrow is also the last day of the sale at Bumblebee Crafts and the doors will close at midnight along with the Lounge forum. It is sad but a decision that has had to be made. Scrapping Angels will take over with a new look from next weekend, so I am very excited.

I am off to catch up on some sleep and rise nice and early for my trip to Stevenage, but before I go, please pop on over to Annies blog, boy am I proud *inserts cheesey smile*

Classes and DT stuff

blogged by me domestic goddess On 3/01/2007 10:26:00 PM 6 lovely comments
At last, I have finished one of my DT layouts for Zsiage. i have been struggling getting motivated. Its just me. I seem to go through stages of doing lots of cool stuff and then a mundane week or three with paperwork and "stuff" which leaves me feeling flat, but wanting to scrap!
My "S"crap room, is just that, an absolute tip!! And if I even followed an ounce of Feng Shui I would have my answer to my lack of mojo. This weekend i have promised myself i will organise and let this scrap room be the room it so rightly deserves to be.

This LO is of Lilly "My Star" using the new range of papers designed by Jenn Starr for Zsiage. Love love love them. Also the fantastic chipboard, which I believe ATDML will be stocking :).

Saturday is the beginning of my 5K training, and with Annie, Cath and Izzy behind me, I should managed it. Annie is my running coach, Cath is my training buddy and Izzy has assigned herself the task of nutritionist, No word of a lie! this girl reckons if I stop eating Sweets and eat healthy food I could look like her ;) she has a point, doesn't she?!
Classes, classes, classes I hear you cry. Yes I am popping them up tonight, well the first 4 classes. The next 4 will go up tomorrow while I fine tune descriptions and such. pop on over to Scrapping Angels website for details. Also I have 2 February kits waiting for a loving home, you know you want one. This kit is super scrummy and you will get a FREE pDF project sheet as well.
That's me for tonight, need my beauty sleep and a good nights rest as I am back into school tomorrow teaching Badgers, Izzy class, yikes!!!!!
Ldo not forget to send us your LO's for a chance to win a fantastic prize at Pencil Lines. Go check it out. you have until Saturday to email us
