Doily Tutorial

blogged by me domestic goddess On 5/27/2011 08:25:00 PM 5 lovely comments
So here is how I make a paper doily, maybe not the "right" way, but its the way that works for me, LOL

You will need:

1 sheet of 12" x 12" paper ( I used Nikki Sivils Its Your day)
Circle cutter or something round to trace round
Decorative edge punch
Trimmer
Glue

  • Firstly choose your sheet of 12" x 12" paper

  • Cut a circle the size you want. I cut a 2.5" diameter
  • Now punch out about 3 - 4 decorative edge strips

  • Lightly scrunch the strips, and if you want you can lightly spritz with water to make the strips more pliable

  • Ink the edges if you wish of your circle and strips
  • Now start pleating the strips and adhere with glue onto the wrong side of your circle

  • Keep going until you have completed your circle.

  • Turn over and admire your doily work!
  • Add to your layout

Easy isn't it!

Thanks for stopping by and do share your doily projects by posting a link in the comments below.

Mini Book

blogged by me domestic goddess On 5/25/2011 06:04:00 PM 2 lovely comments
This mini book is a fantastic little gem, using only 1 sheet of 12" x 12" card stock and a bunch of scraps and any embellishments you have lying around. Within an hour or so you will have completed a very cute brag book/mini book that will be treasured!

I used the kit I designed for 3 Jolly Scrappers, which you can buy from here for £12.00 with instructions to make 2 layouts and this mini book.
I used all my scraps left from the 2 layouts I had made (see yesterdays post) for this mini book.

Emma's Shoppe

blogged by me domestic goddess On 5/24/2011 03:54:00 PM 5 lovely comments
Sunday I was teaching at my local crop. I had designed the kit for 3 Jolly Scrappers and we managed to make 2 layouts and a mini book!! Not bad for £12.00 really.

I chose Emma's Shoppe by Crate Paper as the main focus and mixed in some Echo Park, MME, Prima and Pink Paislee alphabet stickers.
These new papers from Crate Paper are so pretty and were just perfect for scrapping one little persons Tea Party last weekend!

Its Your Day

blogged by me domestic goddess On 5/19/2011 12:11:00 PM 2 lovely comments
I received my copy of The Scrapbook Magazine at the weekend, and what a trip down memory lane it was. A layout I had done of Lilly and her friend from Lilly's birthday party last year! She had a Tinkerbell party last year and thanks to our holiday in Florida, I had managed to pick up some real bargains to make her party sparkle!

Funny that whilst I read this months issue I was busy prepping for Lilly's Mad Hatters Tea Party.

Here is my layout, Its Your Day, using Nikki Sivils papers of the same name.

Supplies : Nikki Sivils Its Your Day papers, Bazzill cardstock, Such Sweet Tierney buttons

Today I want to share the children's costumes. With 13 children, we had a nice mix of characters; a few Alice's, a couple of White Rabbit's, one White Queen, two Red Queens, a Cheshire cat and the Mad Hatter herself!

I am so glad I didnt go as the Red Queen in the end, as this little girl out shone us all!!

Mad Hatters Tea Party Part 1

blogged by me domestic goddess On 5/16/2011 01:26:00 PM 13 lovely comments
Now you can understand why I have been so busy! Inspired by all the amazing inspiration out on the www, and SJ's Mad Hatters Tea party she held for her birthday last year, Lilly decided to have one too!!
The downside is when you are a working photographer, a baking expert wanna be, a "wish I could do kids birthday parties for a living" kinda mum, you end up giving yourself a ton more work than most people !
Thankfully the wonderful Miss SJ made the invites for Lilly using her Mad hatters download, and this was the start of things to come!
After realizing that china tea cups for a bunch of 7/8 year olds wasn't a perfect combo, I bought a few pieces for decoration and then found the most gorgeous paper plates, flags and cake stand that evoked old floral china; a much safer bet!

Three Alice's sat on a bench

Jelly babies spilling from floral tea cups

The Rainbow Layered Cake

So with flowers in a Cath Kidston pink glass jug, china cups piled and toppling on the table overflowing with jelly beans and jelly babies, all adorned on a pretty floral tablecloth, it was time to pop some food on the table.
We had finger sandwiches, sausages, sausagerolls, cheese and pineapple, queen of hearts mini biscuits (jammy dodgers), cake pops, biscuit pops, Mad Hatter cupcakes that I slaved over, LOL, (and realize I am no sugar paste expert), and a selection of drinks.

The finale was the Rainbow Layer Cake, and boy did it impress me! I am not one for blowing my own trumpet, but this did look A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.

The kids were mighty impressed as well, so a big thumbs up!

Tomorrow I will share the costumes, everyone really did out do themselves!

8 years old

blogged by me domestic goddess On 5/07/2011 12:32:00 AM 3 lovely comments
Eight years ago today, I gave birth to our second daughter, Lilly Keiko Bowkis, weighing in at 8lbs 7oz at around 7am in the morning.
Lilly was a completely different baby to Izzy, Lilly fed and slept. In fact I think baby books were written about Lilly, she was text book perfect.

Izzy fell totally head over heels with her new baby sister, and our family of 3 became 4 and we were complete.
Eight years later, and I have a beautiful blue eyed blonde, who has a huge heart of gold.

with her new monkey to add to her large monkey collection

  • Lilly lights up a room with her smile and her personality. Lilly can captivate an audience with her wit and charm, sings like an angel, and lives in Lilly land!
  •  She loves the world we live in, and is a huge animal lover, has a great interest in everything to do with the planet. Lilly has a green thumb, whatever she touches in the garden blossoms, literally!
  • Lilly is an orange belt in Qi Kwan Do, can memorize lyrics and words with amazing ease, and we are often sat down to listen to Lilly recite the whole school play, word for word, all parts!

Lilly will continue to grow, continue to make people happy, and I will continue to be charmed by her wit and humour. I will wake up tomorrow morning to her beautiful voice, her familiar smell and that smile.

Guest Designer at Little Musings

blogged by me domestic goddess On 5/05/2011 04:20:00 PM 2 lovely comments
I have mentioned several times on my blog, my love for SJ's Little Musings. I love them so much I commissioned her to draw a Little Musing of the girls, and we all adore it. Since that SJ has produced a family Little Musing and also made Lilly's birthday invites for her Mad Hatter Tea Party. I am telling you there is no limit to this girls talents!

You can imagine my delight when SJ invited me to guest design for her, using the newest release of stamps, Angels. After my initial excitement, I kinda panicked. I am no card making at all, and my colouring skills are extremely basic!

Layout using Pencil Lines sk236

I simply printed the digi versions of the Angel stamps SJ had sent me, and spent an afternoon in the garden "colouring in" with my Promarkers. I added some highlights with a white signo pen; I had seen this done before and love the added depth it gives.

I cut out another set of wings and used 3d pads for added dimension and pop!

Supplies : Fancy Pants, American Crafts papers, Crate Paper chipboard, Little Musing digital stamp, Letraset Pro Markers, Heidi Grace rub on, Such Sweet Tierney journaling block, Dear Lizzy chipboard and title

Once I had my Angels coloured and cut out, I was on a roll and had fun adding the Little Musings to my layouts.

I also made this card with my favorite Angel of all, which funnily enough was the Angel SJ had in mind for me!

Supplies : Papermania card blank, Nikki Sivils paper, Fancy Pants die cut, Dear Lizzy felt flower, Little Musing digital stamp, Letraset Pro Markers

I had so much fun I purchased this cute set to do a mini book of Lilly and her love for the garden!

Please pop on over to SJ's blog for a ton of freebies she has on offer of her Little Musings, and delight in all the talent she oozes on her blog!
