Stepping Down

blogged by me domestic goddess On 10/18/2011 03:28:00 PM 0 lovely comments
Its with great sadness and after months of decision making, that I have stepped down from the Nikki Sivils design team. I have had an amazing year with Nikki and the girls and feel really honored to have worked with Nikki. My photography business is keeping me really busy at the moment and I just havn't been dedicating the time that Nikki and the DT deserve.

I was the only UK girl on the team and worked hard to get Nikki Sivils designs showcased in our UK magazines.

I thought I would share a few of my fav Nikki Sivils projects with you :

one of my first projects

a more recent layout using the new Get Well Soon range

love this range of papers! Published in TSBM

another oldie. Published in TSBM

a cute mini book using Nikki Sivils papers and mini book

I will not stop visiting Nikki Sivils blogs and seeing what the DT have been up too, always inspirational.

Mixing things up

blogged by me domestic goddess On 9/18/2011 12:20:00 PM 1 lovely comments
Playing with some Nikki Sivils last week for Nikki's blog, and I decided to mix things up and use 2 lines to design my layout. I used "school is cool" and "Get well soon"

It just shows that the name of a collection is not the only use you can have for it. I love the colours in the "Get Well Soon" collection, but I had already done a layout of a poorly Lilly and didnt want to do another "get well soon" themed layout.

Supplies : Nikki Sivils papers, die cuts, buttons, and alphabet stickers, Prima flowers and gems, wooden monogram from stash

The colours of both these collections worked well together. The photos are from a day on the river back in June.
Head on over to Nikki Sivils blog to see what the rest of the international DT did this month.

New Nikki Sivils

blogged by me domestic goddess On 8/17/2011 08:23:00 PM 3 lovely comments
I actually scrapped last week, and played with a couple of the new Nikki Sivils lines. One of my favorite being the "Get Well Soon" papers! AS mums with cameras we all snap photos off our poorly kids and I have several photos over the years. I started off with a few photos when Lilly was poorly a few months back.
All taken with my IPhone and edited on my IPhone.

Germs

Supplies : Nikki Sivils Get Well Soon papers, diecuts and stickers

My next layouts is with "School is Cool", although there are a few Americanized stickers in general these papers are great for us English scrappers! I scrapped the girls on Sports Day, which I scrap every year!!
Love that the photos are always so colourful, and these papers are bright and funky!

Friendship Layout

blogged by me domestic goddess On 8/12/2011 03:34:00 PM 3 lovely comments
Sometimes when I am commisoned to do a layout for a magazine, I get sent papers/embellishments to use. Lindsey from the Scrapbook Magazine sent me some Bo Bunny many moons ago for an issue of The ScrapBook Magazine.

Not my usual colour choices, but after playing around for a bit I came up with this layout using an old photo of Sue and I.

3d stickers are old Basic Grey/KandCo

Supplies : Bo Bunny papers, Prima flowers, Maya Road felt bird, Basic Grey 3d stickers, MM alphabet, Crate chipboard, Websters ribbon, pearls from stash

I loved how the Crate chipboard worked so well with the Bo Bunny papers.
As I write this post the heavens have opened and it looks more like a winters afternoon then summer!

Hope you are all enjoying the school holidays, thanks for stopping by

If you fancy getting to know what makes me tick creatively, then pop on over for a nosey!
Also I am giving away a signed copy of Pencil Lines the sketch book to one lucky reader over at Vicki's blog!!

Over the last few weeks I have started receiving layouts I have had published in The Scrapbook Magazine and Crafts Beautiful. As you can imagine most of the layouts were done months ago and its always a nice surprise when they are returned. I had forgotten a few of the layouts!

Today I am going to share a favourite I did for The Scrapbook Magazine using Nikki Sivils "Its Your Day".
Lilly and her BF at her birthday party last year. I had managed to buy lots of goodies from Florida for Lilly's Tinkerbell theme at a fraction of the cost here in the UK.

love the party hat bunting!

Dad and me

blogged by me domestic goddess On 7/13/2011 04:31:00 PM 2 lovely comments
I cherish this photo of my Dad and I, taken when I arrived back in the UK in 1996, hence the young looking me, LOL.
My Dad was still living in a flat with MS and no lifts up to his floor! He used to walk 2 flights to get to his flat, crazy eh!
He was still able to walk aided and able to fend for himself. This is probably the last photo I have of us together before he got really sick.

Supplies : Pink Paislee Queen Bee, Pink Paislee die cuts, Prima flowers, MME transparency,Nikki Sivils burlap buttons, Bazzill cardstock

I used a kit from my last crop, I still have a couple available if anyone is interested. £10 inc 2nd class postage. (contents : 2 sheets of cardstock, 4 sheets of Pink Paislee pattern paper, 1 sheet of PP die cuts, 1 alphabet sheet, 1 transparency, Prima flowers, 1 pack Nikki Sivils burlap buttons)

Pop by my photography blog for our day out on the river photos.

I'm Back!

blogged by me domestic goddess On 7/11/2011 07:08:00 PM 1 lovely comments
OMG 2 weeks without the internet is not good, I have not enjoyed it at all. I have had some access via my phone and IPad but it is limiting on what I can do.
The house has enjoyed my absence from the computer, it has been clean and tidy for 2 weeks now, and I have done loads of baking too, LOL.

So I am back, and will catch up on lots of blogging this week. Going to start with a layout to share. I had my crop a few weeks ago now and managed 4 layouts! A miracle i must say.

This layout is a photo of Lilly and I. I pulled out a bunch of original photos and took them to the crop.  It was fun scrapping "imperfect photos". I am so wrapped up in the rule of thirds, clean lines and catchlights that we sometimes forget to photograph the moment. I am too busy making sure the light is falling on their faces right and the background isnt distracting, all this can overtake the actual moments sometimes, these photos are pure snapshots!
I love this photo and am sure I have scrapped it before.

Supplies : Kenner Road kit, Such Sweet Tierney buttons, Prima flowers, Nikki Sivils Burlap buttons

The past few weeks have been busy. My photography business is doing well and keeping me out of mischief I am glad to say. Since I last blogged Peter and I went to MK Bowl to see the Foo Fighters, who once again blew me away! I am totally in love Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins is just to skinny for me now, sorry Taylor.
Weekends have been spent down by the river and on a friends boat, so relaxing and peaceful, and as got Peter browsing EBay for boats now, LOL. Will share some photos this week from our days by the river.

Phew!

blogged by me domestic goddess On 6/30/2011 04:15:00 PM 2 lovely comments
I am sat in the public library at the moment! This is so strange, I feel like I have lost both limbs. This morning I headed into town and bought myself a large coffee and settled down to some wifi at Costco coffee shop; erm well I ended up sat on my lonesone with my large coffee as they do not have wifi, gggrrrr. So here I am in the public libary.

Today I want to share another of my layout I did at my crop on Sunday.
This is an origianl oldie of Izzy around 3 years of age. Peter used to work away 10 days at a time in London when we lived near Newcastle. peter has just arrived after another stint away from home and Izzy's face is full of joy, arms outstretched for a hug from her Daddy.

Crop = Scrap

blogged by me domestic goddess On 6/26/2011 08:15:00 PM 3 lovely comments
Today was crop day and although there were only 4 of us and myself we still had a great day, and I believe it or not, scrapped 4 layouts!!! A new record for me, I rarely manage 1 layout at a crop, LOL.

This layout is for Pencil Lines sketch 244. Leaving very last minute I know but scrapping time has been put on the back burner these last few weeks.

I am using up my drawer full of left over kits, and this is another one from Kenner Road.

Supplies : Kenner Road Kit, word strip Scenic Route, Bakers Twine, button Such Sweet Tierney

The weather here is glorious, very hot and sunny. I have sports day tomorrow for both the girls and hope to have all my layouts blogged this week for you with some sports day photos!

Thanks for stopping by, hope your weekend was a good one.

Love

Remember the layout I did for Pencil Lines sk242 that I blogged about on Monday? Well as I had said I had many photos I loved from that day, and this was another photo, of Izzy that I adore.

Scrapped with the same kit from Kenner Road, so wish she hadnt closed down *boohoo*, loved those kits.

Supplies: October Afternoon, Sassafras Lass papers, Cosmo Cricket chipboard, bobble trim from stash, burlap button Nikki Sivils

I have made a promise to myself that I need no new stash, I must use what I have. Its been great going through my old stash and finding papers that I truly love, not worrying that they are "so last years darling!"
I think in these harder times have a rumble through those drawers crammed with older papers is not a crime and can actually be fun!

Best Friends

blogged by me domestic goddess On 6/12/2011 08:01:00 PM 3 lovely comments
Like all siblings, they have their good days and their bad days. My girls are no exception to that rule. They either adore each other or are fighting each other. They change how they feel about each other like the wind changes direction, and its hard to keep up with them, LOL

But when I capture special moments of my girls laughing, loving each other and truly being best friends, sisters, my heart melts and I am so glad I am tethered to my camera!
This was one of those days, and this is just a few from a series of photos taken of my two messing about, giggling and just finding fun in the smallest of things.

I love my girls  to the moon and back.

When I designed this sketch I didn't have these photos in mind, but I am glad that when I pulled the sketch out to play with, these photos sprung to mind immediately. I used an old Kenner Road Kit to complete this layout.

A Layout!

blogged by me domestic goddess On 6/07/2011 11:03:00 AM 1 lovely comments
Its been an age since I scrapped. I am struggling again to be honest. Most of my energy is spent on my photography business now and my scrapbooking creativity has been lost under a pile of legal photography forms, LOL!

I did though find some time yesterday to play with some Nikki Sivils papers, and used a photo I had printed already. I love this photo from Lilly's birthday party of the "3 Alice's" sat on the bench

love Bakers Twine!

cute bobble fringing

Supplies : Nikki Sivils papers,  Bakers Twine, Bobble fringe from stash, Tim Holtz raffle ticket, button, Nikki Sivils alpha stickers

Doily Tutorial

blogged by me domestic goddess On 5/27/2011 08:25:00 PM 5 lovely comments
So here is how I make a paper doily, maybe not the "right" way, but its the way that works for me, LOL

You will need:

1 sheet of 12" x 12" paper ( I used Nikki Sivils Its Your day)
Circle cutter or something round to trace round
Decorative edge punch
Trimmer
Glue

  • Firstly choose your sheet of 12" x 12" paper

  • Cut a circle the size you want. I cut a 2.5" diameter
  • Now punch out about 3 - 4 decorative edge strips

  • Lightly scrunch the strips, and if you want you can lightly spritz with water to make the strips more pliable

  • Ink the edges if you wish of your circle and strips
  • Now start pleating the strips and adhere with glue onto the wrong side of your circle

  • Keep going until you have completed your circle.

  • Turn over and admire your doily work!
  • Add to your layout

Easy isn't it!

Thanks for stopping by and do share your doily projects by posting a link in the comments below.
