Budding Artists

blogged by me domestic goddess On 6/28/2010 06:16:00 PM 5 lovely comments
Whilst I was teaching at my crop yesterday, both the girls were doing their homework. Firstly, the fact taht Izzy is doing her homework without an argument brewing first is great!
Secondly, both the girls had art homework.

Lilly had to do a Kadinsky inspired piece. Back in the 90's I decorated my first flat minimilist. hard to believe I know; I had white walls, black sofa, black furniture, black and white matress ticking for blinds and Kadinsky posters framed. So it was interesting to talk to Lilly about Kadinsky and what she thought of his art. All this budding artist stuff was done in her swimming cossie, of course!
This is what she produced;

inspired by this

A master piece in my eyes, and 1 Mr Kadinsky would be proud of I think.
Excuse the toothy grin! We have one very stubborn top tooth thats falling out at an angle, and will not be pullled!

Izzy had themed homework to do on Hunstanton, which could be interpretated as she wished; a written piece, dance, music or art. Izzy chose to be inspired by art.
She found a photo and copied it using my promarkers to colour in.

I love her modern aproach to the colour and design. I am impressed by her choice of mounting and framing and I just "heart" the way she has signed her piece of artwork.

Totally blown away by both my girls, my little budding artists!

What made you proud this weekend?

Ellies Day Out

blogged by me domestic goddess On 6/26/2010 01:14:00 PM 9 lovely comments
Today it is my turn to blog over at Nikki Sivils. I had lots of fun playing with Ellies Day Out. I made a 12" x 12" layout of Izzy, using a photo I took of her the day before she went on her first school residential to Scraborough. Some of you may remember my post last month of tears and real concern about Izzy going, but it all turned out good in the end. From this photo you wouldnt even know  how worked up she was!

Supplies : Cardstock Co Ordinations, Pattern Paper Nikki Sivils Ellies Day Out, Diecuts Nikki Sivils, Chipboard Heidi Swapp and Cosmo Cricket, Flower Prima, Alphabet Cosmo Cricket

I also made a card and gift bag for a Teachers Gift, using Ellies Day Out. This is a cookie bag I have made on  numerous occasions; especially at Christmas!

Check out the instructions below.
Instructions :

  • Trim your 12" x 12" sheet into 6" x 12"
  • Now score 1 1/2" in from each side
  • Next score 5" up from the bottom and from the top
  • Score 2" down and 1 1/2" in, on all 4 sides
  • Cut along the line to the 5" score line, and cut the 2" x 1 1/2" out.
  • Ink if you want all edges at this stage
  • Using double sided tape, adhere 2 of the flaps and stick to from a box
  • Now lift up the 2 sides, you now have your basic cookie bag.
  • I now made a flap to pop over the top of my bad, using a scalloped punch.
  • I stuck the scalloped circle onto one side of the bag, and punch a hole and thread ribbon through to keep the bag closed.
  • Decorate your bag as you wish :)

I have a busy weekend ahead; a few projects to tie up, some sun worshipping to do, my monthly crop, and a dinner of steak on the BBQ with homegrown salad and Hestons new potatoes using all homegrown herbs!
Don't you just love the Summer!

Our football team finally got it right yesterday afternoon and we are now through to the final 16 in the World Cup, to be honest I wasn't sure we were going to do it, but we did!
And Andy Murray  has just won 3 sets to 0 in Wimbledon and is through to his next round.

Come on England do your country proud!

Not the most imaginative title! But i do love this photo of the girls whilst we were on holiday, infact I may have already scrapped it, oops!

Used some left over papers from a Kenner Rd kit ( see the theme here, gonna miss my kits!), and some MME.
I punched a small scalloped circle and then cut in half to make the bunting. I really love the bunting theme thats so "in" at the moment!

I punched a large scallop, smaller scallop and used 3d foam pads to add dimension to make my own embellishment. A Such Sweet Tierney button with twine was placed on top.

Supplies : Kenner Rd kit, Bazzill cardstock, MME die cut, Such Sweet Tierney button, Paper Mania flowers, twine, word strip from stash, Heidi Grace rubon

I love it when a layout comes together quickly. I have started to like the effect of mounting white cardstock onto a coloured cardstock, makes the layout pop!.

Pencil Lines

Pencil Lines went live with sketch 192 and Angie Woolfall as our guest designer. Angie also provided this weeks sketch; a really versatile 2 photo sketch.

Yesterday was Fathers Day, so I created a layout with Peter and the girls, and myself. I used one of my Kenner Rd kits, full of Sassafras papers and gorgeous corregated alphabet from Jillibean Soup, absolutley adore these! Perfect to colour, spray or ink.

The bunting is on a sticker sheet from Sassafras Lass, feel the need to purchase another sheet of this!

The gorgeous felt embellishment is from Melody Ross.

To see what the design team and Angie did with this weeks sketch, pop over to Pencil Lines, and don't forget to download the FREE digital template!

A Day on the Beach

blogged by me domestic goddess On 6/20/2010 06:47:00 PM 4 lovely comments
My absence has been due to my emotions running high, extreme tiredness and working 2 full days this week at work!
Tuesday I attend my Uncle's funeral in Brighton. I have had to make some big decisions about attending this funeral, due to many reasons, that I will not discuss here on my blog, but the right choice has been made and I will be attending. I need to see my cousin whose father it is that has been lost, I know how heart breaking it is to loose your Dad and I want to give her a huge hug.
I ordered flowers today, the girls are all sorted out with childcare, and Peter will be taking the day off to attend with me.

The funeral aside, I spent Wednesday at Hunstanton beach with the school I work at. I took over 400 photos! Need to edit some and pop on the school media share. I can though post a few here that have no kids.

Funny thing is, Izzy went on Thursday, would have been interesting if we had been there on the same day!

Thursday I attended a full day First Aid course, i can now deal with nose bleeds, burns and give the kiss of life, LOL. laughing aside, as a mum I am really glad that I know some basics that will defintile come in handy at home.

Today Peter has been spending lots of time with the girls whilst I caught up with some work. Yesterday I was asleep most of the day, no idea why I couldnt stay awake, thankfully I have slept at all today!

Heres a sneak of 1 project I have finished that will show up on one of my fav all time scrappers blog! I am so honured to be guest blogging for her in the Summer, stay tuned for more on that!

Hope your Fathers Day was a good one.

Scrapping Angels Retreat

blogged by me domestic goddess On 6/15/2010 03:33:00 PM 4 lovely comments
It was a truly wonderful weekend, and one I will not forget in a long time. It was my last retreat for the immediate future. I need a year off, my girls are growing up and are going through changes, and I need to be around more.
Emotions were running high, as we remembered Catherine Swift, who sadly passed away last month from Cancer. The ladies helped raise over £300 for The MS Soceity and the Hospice that Catherine wished to have all donations go to. Thank you to everyone who purchased raffle tickets and donate to these worthy causes.

Thank you to our wonderful teachers this weekend, MJM, Tracie Hudson, and Sandie Vincent, and to Sue Deacon my right hand woman, whom without I could not get through these weekends, LOL

I will leave you with this photo, of gorgeous flowers that Sue gave to me at the end of the weekend. Thank you Sara for taking the photo.
Plenty more photos to come, just need to download them.

Whilst browsing one day, I came across this gorgeous site, "Ruffles and Stuff" and this cute ruffle skirt.

picture taken from ruffles and stuff

Well it didnt take me long before i was ordering some gorgeous jersey fabric from this store, "Dots N Stripes".
Pretty fabrics have landed and I cannot wait to get downsizing the ruffle skirt for the girls, complete with t shirts and bandana's, what do you reckon? cute eh! I have gone for a floral jersey in pinks, red and yellow, with solid colour contrasts.

This weekend is the last Scrapping Angels weekend retreat. Its been a tough one this year, as I was delayed in Orlando when the retreat should have been, so I have rescheduled and this weekend is the last ever retreat!. I have lots of extras in store for the ladies, really exciting teachers as well. If you are in the are this weekend and fancy joining us for the day I do have 2 places left (saturday or sunday).

Captured on camera...

Sunday evening rituals include me finalising Pencil Lines post whilst the girls are in the shower. I then go upstairs to check they are all washed, out the shower and actually getting ready for bed and not messing about, LOL.

This is what greeted me last night...

They were dressed, not messing, but chilling on our bed, browsing on my laptop, together, no arguments!
so sweet.

What did you capture on camera this weeked?

Pencil Lines and MLS

This week we have been joined by the wonderful My Little Shoebox and their design team.

I got to play with "Imaginary Friends". Of course those little monsters and that big red door were just crying out to be used with my photos of the girls meeting "Monsters Inc." at Disney in April.

The monsters had to be cut out and given the 3d pop treatment!

The new buttons from Such Sweet Tierney are a perfect match with the MLS papers

Supplies : MLS Imaginary Friends papers, diecut sheets, MLS alphabet stickers and mini alpha, Such Sweet Tierney buttons, coloured twine

Don't forget to check out the Pencil Lines website for all the DT's layouts and to downlaod the FREE digital template.

Hope you had a wonderful weekend, we did :)

Flower Girls

blogged by me domestic goddess On 6/04/2010 11:19:00 AM 3 lovely comments
Wednesday me and the girls had a wonderful day at Hitchingbrooke Country Park, with some friends from work and their children. We were a crew of 9 girls and 1 girlie dog! It was the first time all the girls had met ebfore, and everyone got on so well. Ranging from 2 years up to 9 years old!
We all took a picnic and ball games with us, lounge around, ate, played and generally had a fantatstic time, and will defintily plan to do it again in the summer holidays. (only 6 weeks to go wohoo!)

Of course my trusty camera had to come out with us, and just a few photos were taken *wink wink*.
The meadows are just beautiful at the moment ,and are awash with buttercups and large white daisies, perfect for little girls to pick...

Beautiful smile from Isabella

Classic daisy shot!

Jasmine with a perfect bunch of meadow flowers

shame about the barbed fence Anna! Just love this shot of Ashley

and wander through...

how cute is Cordelia!

Ice creams to enjoy!

A pond, just perfect for Saffy the dog to jump in.... Need to practice animal shots! But I am quite pleased with these for a first try. Izzy is completly smitten with Saffy, so we are working on Peter to get our much needed puppy.

The biggest sticks I have ever seen to pick and walk home with (NOT!)

All in all a "Perfect Day"
