A Trip Down Memory Lane....

blogged by me domestic goddess On 9/16/2009 10:50:00 AM
Take yourself back a few years, or in my case a few decades!!, and think fingers and thumbs and a length of Mum's wool. What do you get?

A Cats Cradle!
Izzy has been obsessed with a length of wool and an instructional book to make not just the Cats Cradle as I remember it, but also the Eiffel Tower, Jacobs Ladder and many more!

It makes a change from the usual DS games! Do you remember any school kid games played with nothing more than a conker etc! It does seem these days kids do not enjoy the simple things in life, like us parents did!!, Oh yes, back in the good olde days!!

Thanks for stopping by
Hugs,
Anna xx

OMG I had forgotten all about Cats Cradle, I was never that good at it. I used to spend hours trying to complete the rubix cube, I totally agree "the good olde days" xx

I'd forgotten about the cats cradle too! Funny as I was thinking hte ame this summer...what did we do? Jacks was a big thing ( around late 70's early 80's) when I was at school...with a powerball ideally and I'm trying to remmber how may Jacks - was it 7 or 9? And we kept them all in little drawstring bags that we had made outselves. Aahh ggod olde days

Another thought...we need a revival of these traditional games! Perhaps it can be our mission as scrappers.

I'm going to google for cats cradel instruction. I can't remember whatmove comes next after you pinch the cross overs then bring them around the outsides and up!

What about knitting on a cotton reel with four small pins or nails on the top?
